Oh, I've heard a thousand stories
Of what they think You're like
But I've heard the tender whisper
Of love in the dead of night
(Good Good Father - Chris Tomlin)
As we sang those lyrics at church yesterday morning I was reminded of something that happened early last Friday morning. First of all let me explain a little bit of what's going on in our lives. As you know, Pappy got hurt back in February of this year. His foot/ankle hasn't healed properly and is still giving him problems. We aren't sure at this point what the future holds for his employment, so needless to say I went to bed Thursday night a bit anxious from what he learned at his doctor's appointment that afternoon. At 1:00 on Friday morning, I woke up and IMMEDIATELY these words popped into my mind:
I knew it was part of Proverbs 31, but didn't know the exact verse so I got out of bed to head to the living room to look it up. Before I could even get out of the bedroom, another verse came to mind:
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.
They are plans for good and not for disaster,
to give you a future and a hope.
I sat down in the living room and started jotting all of this down in my journal and found that the first verse is Proverbs 31:25. As I was writing yet another verse came to mind, so I had to look it up.....
Matthew 7:7-8
Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives,
and the one who seeks finds,
and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Can you even imagine the peace that came from knowing that God poured His word all over me that morning? He spoke to my anxious heart in a way that only He can do.
He really is a good, good Father!
This was good to read this morning!
ReplyDeleteYes, He IS (a good, good Father)
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to me that when things are going smoothly, I don't get anxious about what the future holds! As if I EVER know what the future holds.... The challenging times are when I am more thoughtful and open to the ministry of God's Spirit and receptive to/reminded of His promises!
Praying AND knowing that God WILL take care of you, Deb.♥
Yes, He is indeed!! We just need to tune in and listen, and that's exactly what you did. He will provide. Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteI love it when God drops His word into our hearts just when we need it. I have to tell myself all the time that God holds my future and not to fret. Have a blessed day, my friend.
ReplyDeleteYes, God is good. : ) Amazing how He puts just the right verse in our mind when we need it.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes, He is a good Father! I love how He talks to His children. Hope you've had a good day!
