Friday Fotos.....

My week in pictures.....

I couldn't have done this if I tried.....
and it happened twice to our middle grandboy!!
He loves to play b-ball!!!

This is a cell phone pic,
but I still kinda love it!!
A mockingbird has built her nest in a bush next to our back deck!!!

Pappy dug out the wagon that we used when the two oldest grandboys were small!!
Miss RK and Baby Silas loved it.....
can you tell he was sooooo sleepy?!?

Sawyer was dribbling the basketball in this pic....
hence the "movement"!!!
Like I said....
he loves b-ball!!!

This precious boy was sick last week.
You know he had to be to have gone to sleep during the day!!!
He's our oldest and in case I've never mentioned it....
his name is Samuel (Sam),
based on I Samuel 1:27.....

For this child I prayed;
and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him.

Hope y'all have a Fantastic Friday.....
and an awesome weekend!!!

Wednesday's Word - Manners.....

Some of these are repititive.....
but some things are worth repeating!!!
I've been involved in several instances lately where a simple "thank you" would have gone a very long way!!!

A Coffee Break.....

If I weren't 59 years old and post menopausal,
I'd probably be rushing out to purchase a pregnancy test!

Now that I've peaked your curiosity.....
I've been having some tummy issues,
getting a bit nauseated in the early mornings and often after I eat.
The nausea hit a few weeks ago bright and early on a Monday morning.
I found that I couldn't stomach the thoughts of my morning coffee.....
so y'all know something HAD to be wrong.
I went without coffee that morning.....
and the next......
and the next.....
and here I am over 3 weeks later and still haven't had a "cup o' joe".

This was definitely not a conscious effort on my part to quit drinking coffee.
Besides, I've heard there are lots of health benefits from that dark, hot beverage.
But....
what I enjoyed most about my coffee was the creamer and the sweetener.
I really couldn't even taste the coffee itself at all!!!

Sometimes it takes something "bad" (nausea).....
to show us things in our lives that ought not be there!!!

Romans 8:28 tells us.....
"And we know that ALL things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose."

This little incident in my daily life made me ask the question of myself.....
"How many other things do I try to "sugar coat"?"
How often do I try to justify a wrong by prettying it up and calling it something other than it really is.....
SIN!!!

This was definitely "food for thought" for me.....
or should I say "drink for  thought"?

Hope y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!!!

Deb

We remember.....

Did y'all know that Memorial Day was originally called "Decoration Day"?
You can read more about it here.

Today, I want to pay tribute and honor those in my own family who have served in the military to protect my freedom.

My paternal Grandfather - known as Pappy to us grand kids
(this is why my hubby chose to be called Pappy)
George L. Wiles, Sr.
He lost his hearing due to shell shock in WWII

George L. Wiles, Jr.
My paternal uncle who also served in WWII

Robert Wiles
My paternal uncle who died in combat in WWII
I was never privileged to meet my Uncle Robert,
but I've seen pictures of him in his uniform.
He was such a handsome young man.....
he and my Daddy favored.

Carroll J. Huffaker
My very special father-in-law who also served in WWII in Germany

And, my precious Daddy, Hal W. Wiles who tried to serve,
but was turned down due to health reasons.

SONday Morning Song - The Broken Beautiful.....

The Broken Beautiful

I know that I don't bring a lot to the table
Just little pieces of a broken heart
There's days I wonder if You'll still be faithful
Hold me together when I fall apart?
Would you remind me now of who you are?

That Your love will never change,
that there's healing in Your name
That You can take broken things,
and make them beautiful
You took my shame
And You walked out of the grave
So Your love can take broken things
and make them beautiful

I'm better off when I begin to remember
How You have met me in my deepest pain
So give me glimpses now of how You have covered
all of my heart ache, oh with all Your grace
Remind me now that You can make a way

You say that You'll turn my weeping into dancing
Remove my sadness & cover me with joy
You say your scars are the evidence of healing
That You can make the broken beautiful

You make us beautiful, oh oh
You make us beautiful

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy.....

There are lots of things in this life that make me happy.
My family....
especially, our grand's.....
chocolate.....
a clean house
(which is rare).....
working outside.....
our flowers.....
owlies.....
crocheting.....
friends.....
pretty sweaters.....
this list could go on and on!!!

But none of those things can compare to the joy that only God can give me.
There's a big difference between being happy and being full of  joy.
I've heard it said that people can steal our joy.....
I disagree!!
Others can make us unhappy.....
but they can't really steal the joy of the Lord that lives in our hearts!!!

The Red Back Hymnal.....

I love singing out of this old familiar church hymnal.
Most of our "modern day" churches put the words to the songs on the big screen and have done away with using an actual song book.  We visited a church SONday evening as part of the Special Friends group from our church for them to perform their skit.  Before we left, I told Pappy I sure hoped they would sing some good old-fashioned songs....and God surely heard my request 'cause we stood and sang out of that old familiar book!!!  And, the pastor announced that sometime in June they'll be having an old-timey singing where they bring the piano down front and take requests shouted out from the congregation.

Just like in the good ole days!!!

Psalm 95:1-2
Come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

May 18, 2008.....

......was when I wrote my first "blog for God" post!!!
(you can  read it here)

Six years ago!!!

That's unbelievable to me!!!

Several times I've thought about just giving up blogging.....
and I have taken a couple of breaks.
But, most every time I start getting discouraged and decide to quit.....
God sends me just the encouragement I need.
(that happened twice to me this past week with readers sending me personal e-mails)

How much longer will I write to honor HIM?
I don't know.....
I'll just leave that in His most capable hands!!!

Wednesday's Word - Plans.....

James 4:14-15
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?
Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while,
then it’s gone.
What you ought to say is,
“If the Lord wants us to,
we will live and do this or that.”

Hope y'all have a Wonderful Wednesday!!!

Deb

What's your question.....

My father used to say that you could tell the caliber of the
mind of a person by the questions that they ask.

What do you want to know?

Seriously.

If there was one question that you could ask and have answered,
what would it be?

Just one.

What would it be?

Suppose you had a direct line to God's information line?

I know that we have the scriptures but many have personal
questions that are not easily gleaned from scripture.

You do.

I do.

So what would it be?

Is this a vain exercise?

I don't think so.

You will either say,
"What a silly thing to think about and ask
such a question"

...or you will think about "your" question.

If you ask you may not get the answer, but if you never ask,
you definitely won't.

The caliber of the mind of a person is often indicated by the questions that they ask, or whether they even have one.

How 'bout y'all?
Do you have a question for God you'd like answered?

Deb

Happy Momma's Day....

I'm so happy to be able to celebrate today with my own Mom.
She's been a very sick lady for quite some time.....
feels bunches better after getting the blood and iron.....
but still has a way to go 'till we can get her back on the right track.

God's been doing a work in my heart about taking those we love for granted.....
and often throwing myself a pity party because of the past.
I guess that's something a lot of us do from time to time....
but we really do need to let it go and move on!!!

Listen to this short clip by Mr. Michael Tate of the Newsboys talk about Mommas.....

Then, listen to the song, "That Home".....
(and be prepared to cry)

Hope each of you who are Mom's....
Step-Mom's....
Aunt's...
Spiritual Moms....
and, Grandmother's....
(or Nannie, in my case).....
have a very happy and blessed Mother's Day!!!

Deb

Thankful Thursday.....

(my Mom - April 8, 2014)

Thanks to all my sweet blogging friends who prayed for my Mom.
She had the heart cath yesterday morning and, although she does have blockages, her heart is no worse than it was when she had the major heart attack in October of 2011, so her cardiologist didn't place any stents.  Her problem all along has been that she's anemic, something that has happened off and on since the heart attack, which itself was caused from dehydration because of a GI bleed.   All of her symptoms can be attributed to an iron and B-12 deficiency.  She was given 3 units of blood total and intravenous iron.  She actually has pink cheeks now!!!

Ain't God good?
Oh, yes He is!!!

Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

Thanks again for your precious prayers!!!

Deb

Wednesday's Word - Mother.....

In honor of this SONday being Mother's Day,
what better choice than "Mother" for today's word?

Also....
please say a prayer for my own Mom.  We took her for a heart cath yesterday morning and she was extremely anemic. Her hemoglobin count was only 7. They think that's why she's had all the health issues. She does have two big heart blockages and if all goes as planned will have the heart cath this morning, with possible stints, after  receiving two units of blood yesterday.
All prayers appreciated.

Hope everybody has a Wonderful Wednesday!!!

Deb

Bloom where you're planted.....

this time of year.
Here are a few things growing in our yard.....

Orangey-red and pink azaleas
These bushes are about 30 years old!!

Pretty Pansies.....
that remind me of my father-in-law.
He loved pansies!

Snowball bush
Pappy got this for me for our anniversary last year 'cause they have a special meaning to me.  My Mammie (Daddy's Mom) had one in her yard and it was in bloom when Pappy and I got married.  She told me that every year when it bloomed she thought of us.

Purple Iris
These are Tennessee's State Flower!

Rhododendron
The lady I used to work for got Pappy and I two of these for our anniversary about 25 years ago.
They've never bloomed as beautiful as this year!

Matthew 6:28-29
"And why worry about your clothing?
Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow.
They don’t work or make their clothing,
yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are."

What about y'all?
What's blooming in your neck of the woods?

Deb
