I made mention of my "peaceful place" a few weeks ago.
It's our front porch.
That's where I spend some mornings reading my Bible and devotionals.
And, if I get a bit stressed.....
I just go out there and sit and listen to the birds and watch the squirrels play in the yard.....
and watch the leaves flow in the breeze and feel it on my skin.....
and pray.....
and the stress seems to start to melt away!

(our front door mat.....
a gift from our girl)
We live in a fairly crowded neighborhood.....
houses on all four sides of ours.
(some day I would love to move to a piece of property my Mom is giving us.....
out in a big open field.....
by ourselves.....
but that's just a dream!)
(many years ago, Pappy and Jess bought this chair at an antique store for my birthday.....

(wicker rocker belonged to my great grandmother.....
Rock City birdhouse from a Cracker Barrel sidewalk sale in Asheville, NC several years ago.....
Welcome sign from Lowe's.....
old milk can, given to me by our girl)
she painted it red and Pappy redid the seat)
(one of two flower pots on the porch.....
and, yes it needs a coat of paint,
but I kinda like the chippy condition!!!
The church pew in the background was from the church where I was born and raised)
One of my favorite spots on the front porch is this swing,
where I sit when I'm out on the porch.
We've had a swing on the porch for many years.
My first one was a Mother's Day gift and we still have it,
but it's somewhere else in the yard now.
When Jess was little,
we would sit in the swing and wait on the school bus in the mornings before I headed to work.
This particular swing was given to us by our "back door neighbor".....
my sweet friend, Ms. Jan.
And, this is my view while sitting in my favorite spot.....
breathing in Grace!!!
Romans 15:13
I pray that God, the source of hope,
will fill you completely with joy and peace
because you trust in Him.
Then you will overflow with confident hope
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
How 'bout you?
Do you have a "peaceful place"?
Hope you have an awesome Monday and rest of the week!!!
Breathing in Grace,
Deb
I love your sweet spot! Wish I could be there with you having a cup of coffee. Love the church pew! WOW! And I too love the chippy pot! Gives it character! Have a great day! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteOooh, how I looove your porch and all your treasures on it! Good Morning/ Afternoon, Pappy & Jess did very well my friend. I bench and swing are equally as awesome. I have wanted a church pew since I was a teen, I finally bought (a deacons bench, as the seller referred to it) one, its very old. It came from an old church she attended as a child, but my favorite part of the story.... her father was restoring the church and gave her and each of her siblings a bench. She, along with her fathers help, refinished hers. She was only selling it because they were down sizing and moving to Florida, and I was luckily enough to purchase it. I hope you enjoy your treasures for many more years in great health. All the best to you!

I love your front porch. My peaceful place is either in my office or in my son's room.
ReplyDeleteYour peaceful place is absolutely stunning, Debbie. What treasures you have there...especially in your great grandmother's rocker! Priceless! But even more priceless is the peace you get there from spending time with the Lord. I have a space like that as well...our deck. We live very close to the road out front, but when our granddaughters got old enough to start spending time with us by themselves I requested that we have a deck added to the back of the house. It is more secluded from the vehicles passing. I love to go down there and spend time with the Lord!
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, I adore your porch. It's looks so cozy and it's filled with so many wonderful things that tell a story... like the church pew. Too bad I can't join you. We do have something in common though, because my peaceful place is my little deck. When the weather is nice, I read out there, too... :)
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, so nice to meet you. I am visiting from Aim's beautiful post. I love your porch and all the pretty treasures that keep you company while you de-stress and enjoy the calm of your special spot to relax. It is such a cozy spot and inviting. How special to have the church pew!! Love the rocker and the swing is really wonderful. You have a beautiful view while enjoying your porch.
ReplyDeleteMy special and peaceful place is my back patio and pool. It brings great calm and a wonderful spot to just be, relax, read and pray.
Thank you for sharing and blessings to you.
Hugs
After I got back from the lake, I came over to see YOUR porch. It surely WAS coincidence that we both posted about porches on the same day. I had just read the chapter in my book about Sabbath (resting) and she used the porch as a metaphor which I liked. Yours is one of those "designer" porches that I definitely DON'T have :) We DO have a large front porch but live on a very busy road so you can hardly hear yourself think out there, so if I retreat to a literal porch, it is a small back "patio" type we added a few years back.....
