Welcome.....
.....to our third edition of "Friday Food for Thought".
I do believe it might be appropriate today to talk about....
...."food"!!!
Do you remember the huge, overgrown Venus Fly Trap from the movie "Little Shop of Horrors" from several years ago? Do you recall that it would say "Feed Me", in a deep demanding voice when it got hungry? It started out needing just a small amount (of blood) but as time went on, it required more and more to satisfy it's appetite.
Aren't we the same way?
We'll want something sweet....then, decide we need something salty to get the sweet taste out of our mouth....then, we need a soda to wash it all down.
Or, maybe the addiction isn't to sweets, like mine is....maybe the addiction is to alcohol....or drugs....or cigarettes....or gossip....or even sex.
As I studied one morning this week, I read this verse of scripture.....
Matthew 6:11a (NLT)
"Give us today the food we need"!
As happens with me a lot of time, one thought leads to another....and to another....and I wind up taking notes and doing a bit of thinking and researching....and then, you take the time to read what God has placed on my heart!!!
You notice this verse doesn't say the food we "want"....it says the food we "need"!
I think the "food" this verse is talking about can be applied to more than just physically feeding our bodies. The "food" we need is not just for nutrition....we also require "food" to keep us emotionally healthy.....loved ones....friendship....fellowship!!!
But....our emphasis should be on spiritual food....feeding on the word of God....reading our Bible!!! And....just like that Venus Fly Trap....
....the more I feed on His Word....
....the more of it I want to devour!!!
Psalm 119:103
How sweet your words taste to me;
they are sweeter than honey.
HOPE you have a great Friday, Sweet Reader!!!
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
I like the whole prayer Matthew 6 9-15...the daily bread as KJV states, give us this day our daily bread....my spiritual mother, states that before she ever feeds her natural man she goes to the Father to receive her daily bread for her spiritual man! Proverbs 30:8 ....feed me with food convenient for me.....this convenient here in Hebrew is " prescribed portion " "ain't that good "Deb"! Oh I love God's Word ....
ReplyDeleteI love this post. Need vs want. I think this is where our "free will" gives us trouble! Mine for sure!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend!

Such a good thought. His food is Life giving...He satisfies our Hunger and Thirst. Thanks for this reminder today.
ReplyDeleteOh and how it is difficult to figure out the difference between want and need...
