Emptiness....

When we think of the word "empty"....we probably think of it in negative terms.  Our cup is half empty instead of half full....we've drank all of that addictive Diet Mountain Dew and the bottle is empty and Pappy doesn't have another one stashed in the fridge downstairs!!!  We've used the last bit of tissue on the roll....and we're "stranded"!!!  Okay, that one was just to get you to smile!!!
;-)

But....being empty doesn't have to be a bad thing.....not if we're asking God to empty us of ourselves....and fill us up with more of HIM!  That's been my prayer for quite some time now.  The Lord's Supper was observed in a service we attended recently and Pappy and I agreed that it was probably one of the most meaningful we had ever taken part in.  The pastor gave a lot of time for us to reflect upon our relationship with God and whether we were worthy to partake of the little cracker that represented Jesus' broken body....and the grape juice that represented His spilled blood.   My earnest prayer....was
"Dear Lord....please empty me of me....
and fill me up with more and more of YOU"!!!

John 3:30
He must become greater and greater,
and I must become less and less.

HOPE each of you has a "terrific Tuesday"!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!

  1. This such a beautiful post. I never thought of the word empty that way. I will be praying for more of him in me.

  4. Oh Deb, this is so good! Just last evening I experienced this "empty" feeling. As I had not been enlightened of the grandson's ballgame being at 7;30 instead of 6...I showed up at the ball field 1/1/2 hrs tooooo early ...it was hot hot hot ...I was not told of his last game either....I felt betrayed, bewildered in the why would she do this to me? I felt empty for a bried moment then all that the LORD has revealed to me lately came rushing up as a mighty warrior for my defense...as Jesus cried from the cross .... Father forgive them for they know not what they do ....that empty feeling disappeared and my cup runneth over! As your focus point ...I prayed Father empty me of the "human love desire" and fill me with but one love desire and that is YOURS for all mankind. Wonderful wonderful postinig this a.m...again you were the ready writer for the Holy Spirit to minister to me once again this morning...truly truly my cup doth runneth over!

  5. Your post reminds me of the beautiful ol' hymn- "Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up Lord, come and quench the thirsting in my soul. Bread of Heaven feed me til I want no more, fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole" Be blessed!

  6. Great post Deb! And so true...it's hard to let go...(especially of Mountain Dew! LoL!)...but the Lord always fills us when we do.

It's a choice that is well work making..but it does require faith. The Lord never leaves us empty handed.

Hubby is off to a week long trip and I was so sad that he would be gone..then my mom called..could she come for the week? Did I mind? See..God is so good! He knows just what we need.

Lovely thoughtful post and a great reminder. BTW, I would so love for you to link it up to my Tuesday Tea chat today.

  7. I agree with you and often when I pray that I'm shown things that occurred where I reacted from ego instead of the way the Lord used it for me to grow.
And an "empty" sink with no dishes to do is not bad either. LOL

  8. When you feel empty, there's just more room for God! A great message for today for sure.
