Until I searched the definition of the word "nativity".....I didn't realize that it means....
"the process or circumstances of being born".
I've always simply thought of "The Nativity"....as a scene depicting the birth of our precious Lord and Savior. I've collected nativities for many years and my favorite is still the one that we got our first CHRIST-mas together....34 years ago. It's a Home Interior (does that company still exist)....and Pappy built the stable out of "barn wood" plywood.
My Dad passed away on December 4, 1994.
Pappy's Mom and brothers and sisters bought me this nativity and church.....I have them sitting on the chest in our bedroom just for this CHRIST-mas time.
Growing up, my Mom always brought out the Three Wise Men at CHRIST-mas. Because she got tired of my begging and pleading and whining (just kidding).....she gave them to me....but....the same CHRIST-mas that she did that....Jess bought me a set that she found on e-bay because she knew I loved them so much....so I was doubly blessed that year....but I gave a set back to Jess just the other day so she would have her very own
"Three Wise Men"!
"Three Wise Men"!
This is a view of the top two shelves in our curio cabinet holding lots of little nativities.
See this one down front......
....my mother in law brought it back to me from a trip to Mexico!
Luke 2:7 (KJV)
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Do you collect anything pertaining to CHRIST-mas?
Your nativities are beautiful. We have a whole set we have passed on to our kids. I also had 3 beautiful wise men that I got right after we first got married when I was selling the Home Interiors stuff. My son wanted those so I let him have them last year. I do need to get a picture of them as they are really old.
ReplyDeleteI now have 3 new and big stained glass wisemen a friend gave me. You burn a tea light behind them, and the colors really show up. It's just hard to get a good picture, but I do need to do that now that you've posted this and blog about it.
I love your nativity sets. They are so pretty. Keep Christ is Christmas!
