I rarely turn the television on in the mornings....and don't know why I did one morning this week....but I'm a firm believer that EVERYTHING happens for a reason.
(which....makes me wonder why I'm going thru a certain struggle right now...but that's another story for another day!!!)
Anyway....
....the Today show was on....and I didn't catch the lady's name....but she was being interviewed about "The Five D's" that relate to weight loss.
Now....I would say most of us gals ears perk up when we hear something that has to do with weight loss, right?!?!? Well, mine did....and I even managed to grab a pencil and piece of paper and take a few notes....and I really like what she had to say. I'm gonna share them with y'all....but the comments after each "D"....is gonna be some of my own thoughts, too!!!

1) Delay
If you think you're gonna starve if you don't eat something....anything....especially CHOCOLATE....try waiting 10-15 minutes and see if the craving doesn't go away. I've discovered for myself, that sometimes I'm just thirsty, so I'll try drinking some water, or tea.....and....I often think I'm hungry, when I'm just plain ole tired!!!
2) Distract
This one speaks for itself....if you have a desire to eat and you're not really hungry....distract yourself doing something else....i.e., fold laundry....clean out a junk drawer....do some mending....mop the floor....these are all things that usually need to be done at my house!!!
3) Distance
The lady said to distance yourself from the food....mentally and physically. She suggested to not even buy those items that you know you can't resist
(like BBQ Frito's....not that I would ever eat an entire bag in one sitting....I'm just givin' that as an example...;)
Also....if you are going to have snacks....don't leave them out in plain sight....hide 'em....or better yet, have your hubby hide 'em....then, ration them out to 'ya!!!

4) Determine
This one is simple.....just determine if you're truly physically hungry.....or are you stressed.....emotional.....tired
(I believe this lady somehow read my mind!!!)
Here's something she said that really spoke to me.
If it's been at least 3 hours since you last ate....then, you are possibly physically hungry....but....if you ate something that contained from 100-150 calories....then, you can't be truly physically hungry an hour (or less) later....WOW!!!

5) Decide
You have to decide that if you really are hungry....what you're gonna eat. She mentioned portion control....and also something that I thought was neat.....you don't have to ALWAYS make a healthy choice....if you're craving something....then, go ahead and eat a little of it.
