The Love Dare

Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT) - Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Pappy and I are doing "The Love Dare".
It's been around for a couple of years....but....if you're not familiar with it....it was featured in the movie "Fireproof".  It's a 40 day journey and each day you're presented with a "dare"....something that you are dared to do to help strengthen your marriage.
Now...before you ask...Pappy and I aren't having marital troubles....this is just something that I think would be good for any marriage!!!
And....I can already tell that it's making a difference in my attitude.  It really makes me stop and think before I act, or speak.  It is helping me to see just how selfish I can be in some situations!!!
I feel so blessed that he is willing to do this with me!!!

One of the dares was to buy your spouse something....and one of the little "happies" that Pappy bought me was a book....
"Chicken Soup to Inspire a Woman's Soul".
On the inside cover, it's described as
"stories celebrating the wisdom, fun and freedom of midlife".

Yep....I'm in "midlife"....or maybe I'm even headed into whatever the years are called after midlife (please don't say old age!!!)....since I in all likelihood won't live another 55 years!!
I thought this book was a very appropriate gift since we're reading "The Love Dare"....because this little "poem" is at the very beginning of the book.....

Dare To....

Ask for what you want.
Believe in yourself.
Change your mind.
Do what you love.
Enjoy each and every day.
Follow your heart's desire.
Give more than you receive.
Have a sense of humor.
Insist on being yourself.
Join in more.
Kiss and make up.
Love and be loved.
Make new friends.
Nurture your spirit.
Overcome adversity.
Play more.
Question conformity.
Reach for the stars.
Speak your truth.
Take personal responsibility.
Understand more, judge less.
Volunteer your time.
Walk through fear.
Xperience the moment.
Yearn for grace.
be Zany!!!

  1. Hi Deb, Thanks so much for the leaving the sweet comment on my blog. I don't feel I deserved it..but it was sweet any way. Ha!

I LOVE that book!!! I read it out loud to the teens and sort of 'paraphrase' it to apply to them. I'm waiting for them to come out with the Love Dare for families...though perhaps I should just call them and offer to write it. Just kidding!

    Great post Deb!

  6. Hi, Deb! Found you on Rebeccas's blog comments! Several things caught my attention: your reference to Jer. 29:11, a very special verse to me and your comment about the clothespin bag, which I remember so well! Love the poem . . . such good advice! Have a great day!

  7. Deb, I applaud you and your husband for embarking on your mutual adventure. I saw the movie (REALLY liked it!) and got the "gist" of what this 40 Dare might be like.... Don't know why it didn't occur to us to actually DO it :)

The ABC's are very instructive! Thanks for posting them.
