Oh, how I wish I were a Bible scholar like our Sunday school teacher. I wish I could get her to write these weekly recaps for me....but....I would probably just get lazy and not take the time to study and take notes like I have for the past 30 weeks!!! I'm not sure that any of you are getting much out of my recaps....but it keeps me on my toes....and so that makes it worth it to me!!!
So....let's get started....
In the scriptures that I read this week, Isaiah was speaking to the people about the coming destruction.....because of their evil ways. So many things that God had forbidden them to do....they just went right ahead and did anyway. But....with all the punishment they were going to have to endure....God still loved His chosen people....and He gave them hope....thru Isaiah's prophecy.
This is just like He does for us today....thru His WORD....the BIBLE!!!
Talk about being obedient....in the 20th chapter....Isaiah walked around naked and barefoot for THREE YEARS....as directed by God. This was a sign of the terrible troubles that God would bring on Egypt and Ethiopia!
Here are some of the verses that spoke to my heart this week....
This verse is a wonderful reminder....even though God was bringing destruction on His people....of how He shows no preferential treatment.....
Isaiah 24:1 - Look! The Lord is about to destroy the earth and make it a vast wasteland. He devastates the surface of the earth and scatters the people. Priests and lay people, servants and masters, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors - none will be spared.
Are things really so much different today....than in the time of Isaiah's prophecies?
Isaiah 24:5 - The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have twisted God's instructions, violated His laws, and broken His everlasting covenant.
Isaiah 25:9 - In that day, the people will proclaim, "This is our God! We trusted him and he saved us! This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!"
I love this verse of scripture....because it truly is my heart's desire to give God the glory....in EVERYTHING!!!
Isaiah 26:8b - Our heart's desire is to glorify your name.
These verses remind me of how God sometimes has to treat us like we do our children....or GRAND-children....to try to get our point across to them....
Isaiah 28:9-10 - "Who does the Lord think we are?" , they ask. "Why does he speak to us like this? Are we little children, just recently weaned? He tells us everything over and over - one line at a time, one line at a time, a little here and a little there!"
What makes us think that we can hide anything from God?!?!?
Isaiah 29:15-16 - What sorrow awaits those who try to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their evil deeds in the dark! "The Lord can't see us", they say. "He doesn't know what's going on!" How foolish can you be? He is the Potter and He is certainly greater than you, the clay! Should the created thing say of the one who made it, He didn't make me"? Does a jar ever say, "The potter who made me is stupid"?
These verses serve as a reminder....as so much of scripture does....of just how much God loves us and cares for us. I'm the one who gets in the way and tries to do things MY WAY....and makes a big mess....when if I'll just back away...step aside...and let Him have His way....then, things are gonna work out sooooo much better!!!
Isaiah 30:18b - For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help!!!
Isaiah 33:6 - In that day, He will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.
Isaiah 33:22 - For the Lord is our judge, our lawgiver, and our KING.
HE WILL CARE FOR US....AND SAVE US!!!
I'm so glad that God not only sent Jesus to die on the cross for my sins....and when I accepted Him into my heart....He "saved" me....but that He continually saves me....often from myself!!!
Saturday Blessings to each of 'ya!!!
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
