Remember last week when I did the recap of Job and shared with y'all that I knew it was a God-thing that with what I'd been going thru.....I felt like God had me reading Job "for such a time as this"
(of course that was from the Book of Esther)?
Well....I feel the very same way about what I've read thus far in the Book of Psalms. So many of them have really touched home and reminded me of certain things that I've gone thru....or things currently happening with....and around me!!
There's not a story line in the Book of Psalms....so I can't really give you a step-by-step like I have in some of my other recaps.....so.....I want to share a bit about the book itself....then, just list some of my favorite verses that have stood out and spoke to me so far!!!
The Book of Psalms is a collection of prayers, poems, and hymns that focus on God....in praise and adoration!!! There are 150 individual psalms....and it's the longest book in the Bible....which, I'm sure, is the reason why up until now we've been "assigned" 3 chapters a day...and since we've started in Psalm, we read 5 a day!!!
Here are some of my favorites....and since I'm reading from the NLT....some of them are pretty plain....and maybe a bit humorous sometimes, too!!!
Psalm 3:7 - Slap all my enemies in the face.
(no beating around the bush with this one....just flat out ask God what you want!!!)
Psalm 4:4 - Don't sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.
(WOW....that last part was meant just for me!)
Psalm 4:8 - In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, o LORD, will keep me safe.
(The reason the next few stood out to me was because they remind me so much of a situation that I was in on a job once...and they gave me hope that some of the mean things that were said and done....well, God knows and He'll handle the situation!!!)
Psalm 7:14-16 - The wicked conceive evil. They are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads.
Psalm 10:2b - Let them (the wicked) be caught in the evil they plan for others
Psalm 10:11 - The wicked think "God isn't watching us! He has closed His eyes and won't even see what we do."
I think it's so terribly sad that some people actually think this way.....
Psalm 12:4 - They say (the wicked), "We will lie to our hearts content. Our lips are our own - who can stop us"?
Love this one praising my Lord....
Psalm 16:2b - "Every good thing I have comes from you."
Psalm 18:29 - In Your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.
Psalm 19:12-14 - How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
(AMEN!!!)
Psalm 27:1 - The Lord is my light and my salvation - so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
(this one reminds me of Ms. Brenda - she quoted this verse to me just yesterday)
Psalm 30:5 - Weeping may last thru the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Psalm 33:22 - Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our HOPE is in you alone!!!
Psalm 34:4 - I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.
Psalm 37:5 - Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
Psalm 39:7 - And so, LORD, where do I put my HOPE?
My only HOPE is in you!!
Besides the 23rd Psalm....I think this one was my favorite of all this week.....
Psalm 30:11 - You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. Oh, Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!!!
AMEN...and AMEN!!!
Saturday Blessings to each of 'ya!!!
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
