Roots

What do you think of when you hear the word "roots"?
Do you think of your ancestry....your descendants?

Well...I want to talk a little about a different type of "root".

When I was growing up, we lived in a house with a yard full of pine trees?  I always loved those trees.  They were tall and slender and smelled so good.  But, if you know anything about a pine tree....their roots are very shallow.
Last December, we had some very high winds that followed several very rainy days...which made for some soggy ground.  It caused several trees to fall....many of which were pines....due to....yes....their shallow roots.
Their roots just don't go far enough down into the ground to give them good stability!!

What about our roots?
Are we grounded and stable  and have the ability to stand up to the high winds of life....you know...those things like death of a loved one....divorce....financial troubles....sickness....disease?

Job 8:16-18 (NLT)
 The godless seem like a lush plant growing in the sunshine, its branches spreading across the garden. Its roots grow down through a pile of stones;
it takes hold on a bed of rocks.
But when it is uprooted, it’s as though it never existed!

Are we like the tree described in the book of Job?  Do we look like we have it all together....on the outside....but get easily uprooted....just fall apart....when we're faced with trials?

Proverbs 12:3 (NLT)
Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots.

Do we put more faith in worldly things than we do in reading our Bibles....praying....spending time with fellow Christians in church....things to help strengthen us?

I want my roots to be like the tree described by the prophet Jeremiah
(now....wouldn't you know I'd claim a verse in Jeremiah?!?!?).

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NLT)
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat, or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

I want all my "hope and confidence"....to never be in myself....or even in another person....but to be in the Lord!!!
I want to be firmly planted....and rooted....in HIM!!!

Blessings to you!!!

In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
