.....in moderation?
How many of you agree with that?
I wish that was true with me...but...I'm sad to admit....it usually doesn't work that way with me.
I'm an "all or nothing" type person, it seems...in a lot of areas of my life!!!
Let's get personal...okay?
Don't e-mail me your answer...or leave it in my comments....well, unless you really want to....but....I don't know any other way to ask this than to just come right out and say it:
"Do you consider yourself nosey"?
Or...would you use a different word other than nosey?
Curious, maybe?
Remember the old saying..."curiosity killed the cat"?
I believe that being nosey....or curious....or, a busy body....might not kill us physically (although that can and does happen)....it can kill us emotionally....and even spiritually....if we aren't careful.
It can definitely kill our witness to others, if we allow our nosiness....or being meddlesome....to turn into gossip.
I asked the following question one day last week on Facebook:
"Am I the only person with a like/dislike relationship with FB"?
I got several comments back. Some simply told me "nope"...that I wasn't the only one that felt that way. Some commented on how difficult it was to pass by the computer and not check and see what was going on with friends. One of the things that we all seemed to agree on...is that it can become "addictive". I definitely didn't ask the question to offend anybody at all....because I feel that we can use even Facebook to share Jesus with others....to make our "status" something that let's others know what our Lord means to us!!! I simply asked the question....to get an idea if others felt the same way I do. I used to have a MySpace account...and even though I tried to use my page to give God glory....it seemed that MySpace became so vulgar in a lot of ways...for lack of a better description....that I felt convicted even having a page on there...so I deleted it. I think that sometimes the "social" pages get to the point that we want to see how many "friends" we can accumulate....and often those people really aren't our friends at all....it's just a way to keep up with their lives...look at their pictures....be nosey about what's going on with them. One thing I have learned about FB....is.....you can sometimes get to know the "real" person....with the language used....or the things discussed.
This past Sunday....my teacher....whom I dearly love and think is about the most amazing Bible scholar I've ever met....talked a bit about Lot. Remember Lot? He was Abraham's nephew....and he was greedy....he wanted the best of everything....and that greed got Lot in a heap-o-trouble. Here's the scripture that our teacher quoted concerning Lot:
Genesis 13:12 - Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
If you've read the story about Sodom and Gomorrah.....and all the evil that took place there....then here's what you're gonna get out of that verse of scripture:
"Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom"
In other words....Lot pointed his tent right toward the evil....so that he was looking right at it...day and night. You know what happens to us when we do that? When we are looking at things that we shouldn't? Thinking thoughts that are wrong?
Taking more time to look at MySpace...or Facebook...or Twitter....(or even too many other blogs!!!)....or....ANYTHING....than we do praying....or reading scripture....or witnessing....or doing something that brings glory to God?
Here are some scriptures that I found that explain it much better than I ever could:
Proverbs 20:3 - It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
2 Thessalonians 3:11 - For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
1 Timothy 5:13 - And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
1 Peter 4:15 - But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
As usual....when God lays these things on my heart....and leads me to certain scriptures that are applicable to my topic....my toes get stepped on....and so does my heart!
So....if not another person who reads my blog can even begin to relate to what I write....it helped me....to research the scripture.....and to apply it to my own life!!!
I'm not about to tell anybody that FB....MySpace....Twitter...or any of the social networks are wrong....because....I had many "friends" on there who used them for God's glory.
I'm just saying....that for me....the saying....
"all things in moderation"
....definitely doesn't apply....because....I've discovered ....that I have a very addictive personality.
Now....somebody please tell me what to do about this little problem I still have with CHOCOLATE...and my big old sweet tooth!!!
