What do you think of when you hear the word "success"? I know some people who equate success....with money!!! I know all of you know somebody like that, too. They're not happy unless they have the newest model car or the latest style in clothing...or whatever else it might be that they think is gonna make them feel successful. Most of the time.....trying to "keep up with Jones"....can wear a person out!!!
Here's a little poem I came across titled "The Road to Success"....and it holds so much truth!!!
The road to success is not straight
There is a curve called Failure
A loop called Confusion
Speed bumps called Friends
Red lights called Enemies,
Caution lights called Family.
You will have flats called Jobs.
But, if you have a spare called Determination,
An engine called Perseverance,
Insurance called Faith,
A driver called a Conscience,
You will make it to a place called Success.
I don't know the author....and I don't even know if it was written with a Christian in mind....but, that's what I thought about as I read each line. As a Christian, our walk with the Lord isn't always easy...it's not always "straight"....and most of the time...not always...but most of the time our problems are self-inflicted!!! When we think that life has thrown us a "curve"....often we feel like a failure....but we need to take those experiences and learn from them.....not let them confuse us to the point where we just want to give up and throw in the towel (and believe me...I've felt like that myself sometimes!!!). I like that my friends are called "speed bumps"....because they help to slow me down...calm me down....lead me in a different direction when I'm headed toward destruction!!! Same goes with family....they can serve as a caution light to help me re-think a decision I've made to make sure it's the right one....and I hope that I can do the same for them!!!
As for "flats" called jobs...I've had a couple of those in my lifetime, too!!!
But...I've learned...well, let's say I'm learning...that no matter what we go thru...even if God didn't allow it to happen...He can still use it to teach us something!!!
As for the rest of the poem....I'm so grateful that I have the insurance of my faith...that I know that I know that I know....that my God is my EVERYTHING...and I have a home waiting for me in heaven!!!
And...am I ever glad...that once I asked Jesus into my heart...that He came to live within me as the Holy Spirit....and that is what I consider my conscience....that nagging feeling that I get.....IMMEDIATELY.....when something flies out of my mouth that I shouldn't have said...or, even a thought I shouldn't be thinking!!!
Success...what does it mean to you?
Does it have to do with your job? Your home? Your bank account?
Or...is it having somebody come up to you...and tell you...that it seems they can just see Jesus in you...now, my friend...that is what I call....
.....SUCCESS....and that's the kind of success that I strive for!!!
Joshua 1:8 (KJV)
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
In His Most Precious Love....and with mine!!!
