Luke 2:19 (KJV)
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
For a clearer understanding...here is the same verse in New Living Translation:
But Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.
I have always loved this verse of scripture.
I think it might mean more to us girls than to the fellows!!!
Can you just imagine everything that Mary had to think about? She couldn't have completely understood exactly what was going to happen to her...how drastically her life was going to change. What would she tell Joseph??? What about her parents??? What about the gossip???...and you know there was probably plenty of that!!!
But....with everything that had happened to her....she "kept all these things and pondered them in her heart".
Do you know how that feels?
Have you ever had anything happen to you that was so sweet...so precious....so wonderful...that you just kept going over and over it in your mind...and you kept it closed up tight in your heart hoping that feeling would never go away and you could just hold onto the moment forever?!?!?!?!?
I have....oh, the precious memories....when I got saved....when I pretty much knew Pap was going to propose...when he did propose...I still know where we were...and how I felt. When we got married....when we found out we were going to be parents....going to my doctor's appointments...the day I sat in the waiting room and she ( I didn't know "she" was a "she" until "she" was born) but...she was kicking so hard my purse was moving in my lap....how she would stretch out and push at night when I would lay down....the day she was born....how my brother fed me tater tots while I was laying flat of my back and wasn't supposed to move....when we brought her home from the hospital and my Mom was here....the first time she said "Momma"....her first step and how I picked her up and put her in the car and took her to everybody in the family so they could see her take those baby steps...my birthday when my brother and sister-in-law announced they were going to have a baby....the day our sweet nephew was born and all the times we kept him when he was a baby...the day Jess and The Dad got engaged (which by the way was on mine and Pap's anniversary...oh, yes it was...and me and Pap went to Captain's Galley for our anniversary)...their amazing wedding and all the "it's not odd, it's God" moments that went with it....their sweet wedding reception...the day we found out we were going to be grandparents....the day Big Brother was born....the day, not so long after that when we found out we would be grandparents again....seeing the ultrasounds when we found out we were having grand "sons"....hearing Big Brother say Nana and Pap...WOW!!!
All of these things, I "ponder" in my heart. I know there are tons more, but these are things that just jump into my mind right now because they are so real, even though it's been many years for some of them!!! I still keep them closed up tight in my heart because I never want to let them go...and....I know that there will be many more in years to come that I'll feel the same way about!!!
And, Mary did the same thing....thousands of years ago....as a young virgin girl. Don't you know she was scared....she had no clue what was ahead of her...but she believed...she believed everything the angel told her.
WOW!!!
And...she kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often...so that is one thing that Mary and I have in common....I do the same thing....I take those little pieces of life from my mind every now and then and they seem to be just as real as when they happened...the feelings and the emotions come flooding back and my heart seems to fill with the same feeling I had when it originally happened!!!
I think about Mary....I bet at some point in her life....as she grew older....that she once again "pondered" all the things that she kept closed up tight in her heart...and I bet she smiled!!!
In His Love...and with mine!!!

We think we have burdens, but just think about her life.... She was giving birth to the Risen Saviour, the God of the Universe and etc.... We worry about our children what about all the times Jesus would say I am doing my Father work...
ReplyDeletei ponder and ponder at so many things. i love reading that verse, and yes, i do believe it was meant for a woman than a man. men are just so different.
